When Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, part of the PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) family of companies, embarked on the demolition of their decommissioned coal fired power plant (Cane Run units one through six) located in Louisville, KY, the IEP group was employed to monitor the removal of thermal system insulation (TSI). TSI was used in the power plant to insulate thousands of square feet of pipes, tanks, boilers and machinery. The IEP Group performed asbestos air monitoring and onsite laboratory analysis (per NIOSH 582 equivalent method) to quantify the concentration of asbestos fibers in the air during TSI abatement. The daily indoor air concentration of asbestos fibers was communicated to demolition and abatement contractors, that adhered to the OSHA PEL standards.
